Multiplication Tables Check (MTC)
Preparation
Multiplication Tables Check with Emile
mimics the DfE test.
The student interface is an exact duplicate of the DfE’s own interface.
The student interface works in the exact same way as the DfE test.
The student experience after logging on is almost identical to their experience with the DfE test.
Different Times to Answer for Different Students
Allocate different students, different times to answer.
Help students gain confidence by giving them 12 seconds to answer each question.
Slow students down by removing the submit button and help them to practise checking their answer.
Allow students to pause between questions just like the DfE’s own accessibility options.
Different Times Tables for Different Students
Allocate different students, different times tables.
Help students gain confidence by giving them 2, 5, 10’s to answer.
Target those difficult to remember 7 times tables.
Have Year 2 students do different times tables to Year 3 students that do different times tables to Year 4 students.
Half-Termly Assessments across a Trust
Have all your Year 3, 4, and 5s do a Termly MTC assessment and ensure times table fluency across your trust.
Study by the University of Manchester
The University of Manchester was given access to all the results and progress made within MTC with Emile by over 4,000 UK schools over a 4 month period. (All the data was of course anonymised in line with our Data Protection Policy and GDPR.)
The raw data showed that over a 4 month period, students increased the percentage of correct questions by nearly 25%.
Free Multiplication Tables Check Worksheets
We have generated a number of example worksheets for teachers to use in class. They give an example set of 25 questions that you can use to do an Multiplication Tables Check practice test.
Regular Revisits of Terminology
Track Progress
Simple RAG Data that can be exported or printed showing when your students logged in, how they performed across multiple attempts and week by week tracking.
A lot of our reports focus on which times tables students get wrong in 6 seconds, allowing teachers to intervene effectively.
Emile’s simple RAG data shows clearly where students need support.
Accessibility
Allow students to have a pause between questions and choose alternate colourways.
These options mimic the DfE’s own accessibility options.
Multiplication Tables Check Powerpoint Presentation for Parents.
We have designed an unbranded Powerpoint for teachers to use to explain the MTC to parents.
